Farm History: Jeff Brunty started Brunty Farms at the age of 13 with seven laying hens and a big dream. His part time hobby turned into a full-time job with the addition of meat chickens, turkeys, rabbits, and much more. In 2009, Jeff and Mel submitted an application to farm in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and have since then created a new home for Brunty Farms. After moving to the new location on Martin Road in Bath Township, Brunty Farms has taken on several new adventures, such as the addition of pastured pork, beef and lamb. The 13 laying hens have now turned into 1,000, but the quality and passion still remain the same. Brunty Farms is truly committed to providing sustainable, healthy food to the great community of Northeast Ohio.
Animal Husbandry: Brunty Farms operates by practicing sustainable farming methods and focusing on rotational grazing for livestock production. All of the livestock at Brunty Farms are raised outside being able to consume as many legumes, insects, weed seeds and grasses as they desire. Our animals are rotated throughout the carious fenced in pastures to maintain excellent pasture health and fertilization. Their diets are also supplemented with non-GMO feed rations from local farmers.
Processing: All of our poultry is processed directly from the farm. Our pork, lamb and beef are processed at a fully inspected ODA facility.
Fun Facts: We hand collect, wash and pack nearly 500 eggs each week. In 2012, we processed close to 10,000 poultry. We can process around 75 chickens an hour. We can cut up a chicken in about 60 seconds. Our most popular sausage flavors are Apple Bratwurst, Chorizo and Maple Breakfast Links. We have a Great Pyrenees - Leo - who protecst the livestock. Riley and Tito are our Border Collies. If Jeff wasn't a farmer he would be a beach bum or a fisherman. He loves the sand and sea. Mel has two college degrees and was planning on pursuing her dream for fashion, but is a full-time farm girl and loves it.
