A vendor with Countryside Farmers' Market since 2016.
People: Denise Krall
Products: Turtle Island Natural Soap Co. handcrafts olive oil and beeswax based soaps using all natural fragrance oils and certified therapeutic grade essential oils.
History: Turtle Island Soap was born out of a love of natural, holistic living and a desire to contribute to the ideals of a grassroots economy.
Inspired by the example of Eric Brende and the social experiment described in his book “Better Off”, the Krall family began experimenting with natural soapmaking in 2008 as a project fueled more by curiosity and artistry than anything else. Through trial and error, we arrived at our proprietary blend of oils and waxes, and demand for our soaps began to grow steadily among family and friends. Their encouragement inspired us to make our fine soaps available to a wider audience. Turtle Island made its public debut at the Avon Lake Farm Market in the 2015 season and has been growing steadily ever since.
Sourcing: I purchase the oils, wax, and essential oils for my soap from the Bulk Apothecary in Strongsville, Ohio. For my upcycled paper jewelry, I collect interesting papers from junk mail, magazine ads, and thrift-shopped scrapbooking papers. I enhance my paper beads with interesting elements from old and discarded jewelry I find at thrift shops and garage sales.
