Cheesescaping 101

Join Countryside and local cheese aficionado and master cracker crafter Kari Moore for a lovely evening sampling varieties from area cheesemakers, and building your own beautiful cheese board to take home. The evening will start with information on local cheeses and some sampling. Kari will provide a demonstration on building a well-rounded cheese board, and then will assist participants with creating their own masterpiece. Class fees will include up to three cheese selections and four accompaniments. Participants should bring their own platters or boards (roughly 10x14). Additional cheeses and accompaniments will be available for purchase after the class. Space is limited.

Kari Moore is founder of Le Cracker and bakes wholegrain sourdough crackers by hand using stone-milled Ohio-grown grains. Le Cracker also offers a seasonal selection of Ohio artisan cheeses to wholesale clients and by special order.

Kari's life-long love of cheese and crackers dates back to her early years as a picnic-loving kid chomping on saltines and Kraft Singles at the beach. As a student in France, she discovered a whole world of stinky cheese and so much more... food with a story, a place and a face. She fell in love with it all and was never quite the same. Her life and work has since evolved to explore, support and cultivate local food and community.

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Kari relocated to Cleveland in 1996. Kari's work with organizations including The New Agrarian Center, Countryside Conservancy, Entrepreneurs for Sustainability, and Slow Food helped to build the robust local food system Northeast Ohio enjoys today. In 2008, Kari founded FarmShare Ohio, one of the region's first local food delivery programs. In 2015, she launched the Le Cracker brand to focus her work on baking and promoting locally grown grains. Kari and her husband Herb live in Cleveland Heights.
